Garage door questions and answers

Are you a garage door company?

No. We’re a free referral service. We don’t send technicians or do repairs. We pass your request to one independent local garage door company, which quotes and does the work.

Does it cost anything to use this site?

No. The service is free for homeowners. The companies we refer you to may pay us, which is how the site is funded. That never changes the price you’re quoted. See our referral disclosure.

My door is crooked or off its track. Can I push it back?

Please don’t. A door that has come off its track or has a broken cable is under heavy tension and can fall. Leave it where it is, keep people and cars clear, and have a technician reset it. Running the opener can make the damage worse.

My door is stuck open. What should I do tonight?

Lock the door between the garage and the house, and move valuables out of sight. If a spring is broken, don’t pull the red release cord: without the spring the door can drop hard. Ask companies whether they can at least close and secure the door the same day, even if parts come later.

Should I replace both springs if only one broke?

Usually, yes. On a two-spring door both were installed at the same time and the second one is likely close to failing. Replacing both in one visit typically costs less than two separate service calls.

Do garage door companies in Arizona need a license?

Contractors in Arizona are licensed by the Registrar of Contractors. You can look up any company’s license, its status and any complaints at roc.az.gov before you hire them.

How long do garage door springs last?

Standard springs are commonly rated for about 10,000 open-and-close cycles. For a household that uses the garage as its main entrance that’s roughly seven to ten years. Heat and lack of lubrication can shorten that.

Which areas do you cover?

Buckeye and Goodyear in the West Valley, including communities such as Verrado, Sundance, Tartesso, Festival Ranch, Sienna Hills, Estrella, Palm Valley, Canyon Trails and PebbleCreek.
